Day and Night Treatment Facility at St. Joseph Recovery Center
Who can benefit from Detox and/or Crisis Stabilization?
The Adult Intensive Crisis Stabilization Program helps men and women (age 18 and older) who have an acute psychiatric disorder such as severe psychosis or depression, intrusive behaviors, or thoughts of suicide. Patients that struggle with daily activities or experience acute episodes of a recurrent condition may be candidates for this treatment. Crisis Stabilization is available for those suffering from a mental health crisis with or without a co-occurring substance use disorder diagnosis.
Patients in the program receive intensive psychiatric management to help them stabilize as quickly as possible. Continued treatment is offered to meet ongoing mental, emotional, and physical needs. This may include an outpatient program for aftercare depending on the patient’s needs.
Our compassionate team of mental health clinicians and other medical personnel works with activity therapists and case managers to provide comprehensive care to all patients.
Detoxification, or detox, can be an essential service for people who haven’t been able to stop using alcohol or other drugs prior to starting treatment. If you have tried to end your substance use on your own but have been unable to do so, you may benefit from detox. Withdrawal from drugs can cause life threatening symptoms, so being in a controlled environment with Medical Support is extremely important.
While you are in the detox program at St. Joseph Recovery Center, you’ll be in a safe environment under the supervision of experienced professionals. Once you complete detox, you can transition directly into the next phase of treatment, all without having to leave our care. St. Joseph Recovery has a detox unit at our Parkersburg location and a Crisis Stabilization Unit at our Summersville facility.

What Happens During Detox and Crisis Stabilization?
As with all aspects of treatment at SJRC, detox and crisis stabilization are customized according to the unique needs of each patient, so no two people have identical experiences. However, certain general features of these processes apply to most of our patients.
The goal of your time in detox/ crisis stabilization will be to manage your acute mental health symptoms and/ or rid your body of addictive substances in a safe and comfortable manner. Your care will be provided by a team of experts, including a medical doctor, Nurse Practitioners, registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), Professional Therapists, Supportive Counselors, Case Managers, and Peer Recovery Support Specialists. Depending upon your needs, our providers may prescribe medication and/or therapeutic support to ease symptoms and help you manage discomfort.
Detox and crisis stabilization occur in a closely monitored environment, so you will not be at risk for immediate relapse or other negative outcomes. Typical length of stay in detox and crisis stabilization at SJRC is 5-10 days.
Are Medication and Therapy Included in detox and crisis stabilization?
Your time in detox or crisis stabilization at SJRC may involve both medication and therapy. As with all elements of care, the decision to include medication and/or therapy in your treatment plan during detox or crisis stabilization will be made after close consideration of your unique needs.
For those in our detox program, various prescription medications have proved to be effective at minimizing symptoms of withdrawal from certain addictive substances. We offer medication assisted treatment for those suffering from opioid use disorder, such as Suboxone and Vivitrol. If these medications can ease your discomfort and protect your health, they will be included in your treatment plan.
At SJRC we realize that many people suffer from acute symptoms related to untreated Mental Health Disorders such as Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and Bipolar Disorder. These symptoms can be life-altering and are often a precipitating factor in substance abuse. If you need Mental Health evaluation and care, including medication, we have these services available.
Therapy can also be an effective means of managing distress and preparing you for the next phases of your treatment journey. Group therapy can allow you to form beneficial connections with others who are going through similar experiences, and help you to start to make the lifestyle changes that will support a healthy future.
